Welcome to Jefferson Lighthouse Elementary School's Web site!
Jefferson Lighthouse is a magnet school for the "gifted and talented." The program, called "Lighthouse" was designed in the late 1970s and based, in part, on Bloom's Taxonomy. The central philosophy is to provide opportunities for students to apply, analyze, evaluate, and create in addition to building basic skills and content knowledge.
Our students are taught how to think about thinking. In addition, Jefferson staff and parents are examining ways to further enhance the Lighthouse program.
In efforts to update our program for the 21st century, we are in the initial planning stages of becoming an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme school.
